Malaysia, April 11, 2012

Diners at Restoran Peladang in Balik Pulau, Penang, were seen enjoying their 1Malaysia People's Menu (MR1M) meals.

Civil servant S. Mugunthan, 31, said he was glad the restaurant was now offering the menu.

"Now our expenditure will be re-duced a little bit," he said.

In the menu, a lunch of rice, vegetables, fish or chicken plus a drink costs only RM4 to RM5.

Manager Gary Gan, 35, said the meal was affordable.

Restaurant owner Mohd Radzuan Ibrahim is proud to be part of the easy-on-the-pocket scheme.

"I want to give back to the people. I want them to feel satisfied," he said.

Earlier, Teluk Bahang assemblyman Datuk Seri Dr Hilmi Yahaya launched the MR1M at the venue.

He hoped more restaurants would take part in the programme.

"MR1M will reduce the rakyat's burden," he said.

Also present was the Penang Domestic Trade, Co-operatives and Consumerism director Mohd Salleh Ma'amor.

"We are targeting 200 restaurants in Penang to take up this menu. There are now 120 restaurants taking part in it," he said.

MR1M is part of the Government Transformation Programme initiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak to help reduce the cost of living.

"It's really worth the price and the food is ho chiak (tasty)," he added.
